Tenochtitlan to Etzanoa

Tenochtitlan to Etzanoa is an immersive tribal ambient work by Spotted Peccary Music artist Shane Morris, shaped by hand percussion, breath-driven flutes, wood drums, vocal invocations, and spacious drones. Across seven pieces, intricate polyrhythms establish a ceremonial pulse while hypnotic melodies and subtle electronic processing expand the music into deep, reverberant space. Earthy acoustic performance and ambient texture meet in a soundworld that feels rhythmic, ritualistic, and transportive. Rather than relying on drum machines or sequencing, Morris performs the album’s rhythmic foundation by hand, allowing each piece to breathe through repetition, variation, and the natural friction of acoustic instruments. Flutes and winds weave melodic paths through the percussion, while layered chants and treated vocals lend the music a ritual, human presence. Synthesizers are used not as a replacement for the acoustic ensemble, but as a surrounding field of shadow, air, and entheogenic color. Named for the expansive cultural corridor between Tenochtitlan and Etzanoa, the album imagines sound traveling alongside trade, ceremony, and shared knowledge in the pre-Columbian Americas. Drawing inspiration from Indigenous musical traditions as well as the primal ambient soundworlds of Jorge Reyes, Steve Roach, Carlos Nakai, and Tribu, Tenochtitlan to Etzanoa is a contemporary homage to ancestral rhythm and ceremonial listening.
