Zamia floridiana
Zamia floridiana, the Coontie, is a compact cycad with stiff, glossy, palm-like fronds rising from a thick underground stem. It is one of the most cold tolerant cycads you can grow, and one of the toughest plants we stock. Origins Native to Florida and Georgia, where it grows in sandy pinelands and coastal scrub, and sometimes treated as a form of Zamia integrifolia. Cycads are ancient plants that were around long before flowering plants existed. Care Give it the brightest spot you have, including direct sun, in a free draining mix. Water infrequently and let the compost dry out fully between drinks. Average home humidity is fine, it tolerates cool rooms, and it will happily spend summer outdoors.
