Why choose Osmo UV Protection Oil Extra? This transparent oil contains pigments that stain the wood, while allowing the natural character of the wood to shine through. Its oil-based formula penetrates the surface to deliver long-lasting protection without forming a film - and its effective against moisture, mould, algae, and fungus. Designed exclusively for vertical surfaces like doors, windows, cladding and fences, it can be used alone or as a top coat over coloured finishes. For enhanced protection against blue stain, rot, and insects, bare wood can be pre-treated with Osmo WR 4001 Base Coat. Key benefits: Suitable for all vertical exterior wood surfaces. Easy to apply and maintain. How to apply Prepare the surface Remove any old coatings (paint, varnish, lacquer). If sanding, do not go finer than P120. Ensure the wood is clean and porous Clean the surface using an exterior wood cleaner and allow to dry thoroughly. Pre-treat if required Treat bare wood with WR 4001 Base Coat first for maximum longevity. Apply the product Apply the oil thinly with a brush or microfibre roller, working along the grain. Let it dry If using as a standalone finish, leave to dry for at least 12 hours, then apply a second coat - but if applying as a top coat over coloured oil, one coat is sufficient. Apply end-grain sealer Apply Osmo End Grain Sealing Wax over the protection oil on any exposed end grain to prevent moisture absorption that could rot the wood from inside. Top tips: Apply thin coats - over-application can affect drying and finish quality. Always work with the grain for an even, professional look. Ensure the wood is clean, dry, frost-free, and has a moisture content below 20%. Allow new or dense timber to weather for around 6 weeks before application. For already weathered or greyed wood, use Osmo Wood Reviver Power Gel to restore original colour before refinishing.
