Made by gathering small batches of dark fleece from wool pools across New England and the Mid-Atlantic U.S. and carding them together, so the color comes from the mix of sheep and carries subtle variation from strand to strand. It is scoured and carded into a continuous sliver with plenty of loft. Carded sliver is airier and a little more rustic than combed top, with fibers that run in more than one direction, so it builds body quickly and has a fuller, woollier hand.
