Ortovox Bivy - Ultralight
A sudden change in weather, an unplanned night out, an injury that slows you down. A bivy bag is cheap insurance for the day it all goes wrong. The Bivy Ultralight weighs 150 g and packs down to 5 x 5 x 9 cm, so there’s no reason to leave it at home. It fits one to two people and blocks the wind, and the PU coating keeps water and dirt out. The silver coating on the inside reflects body heat, which helps keep the cold off you. SPECS Emergency bivy bag for 1 to 2 people Windproof and waterproof PU coating, water and dirt resistant Aluminum coating on the inside reflects body heat Includes stowaway bag Pack size: 5 x 5 x 9 cm Material: 100% polyethylene Weight: 150 g BUYERS’ GUIDE This is a get-you-through-the-night bag, not a camping bag. It’s light and cheap, and it’s built to keep the wind and wet off you while you wait for help or for the weather to clear. It doesn’t breathe, so expect some condensation inside, and a thin polyethylene bag won’t take rough handling like a heavier one will. If you think you’d want something tougher, ask us about Ortovox’s sturdier bivy bags. Even a thin bag works better with a few habits. Put on dry layers before you get in, and sit on your pack or skis so you aren’t in direct contact with the snow. Open the bag and practise getting into it at home, since it’s a lot harder with cold hands and wind. At CA$35 and 150 g, it’s an easy add to any touring kit.
