Paphiopedilum charlesworthii is one of the most recognizable slipper orchid species. Its broad, flat dorsal sepal is washed in rose-pink to purple and sits above a glossy, yellow-brown pouch and narrow petals, all on a compact plant with plain green leaves. That round, colorful dorsal has made it a favorite parent in modern breeding, including our QF Charles Halo and QF Charles Charm. Native to northeastern India, Myanmar and Yunnan, it grows on mossy limestone at mid elevations where nights run cool. Give moderate, indirect light, 55–80°F with a cooler drop at night, an evenly moist bark mix, and regular calcium. It typically blooms in fall. Blooming size — photos are representative of the plant size and maturity available. A classic collector species in its pure form.
