Joseon Dynasty Bunwon Ware White Porcelain Water Pitcher

A white porcelain water pourer fired at the Bunwon ware during the late Joseon Dynasty. The "Bunwon ware" style refers to the output of the official government kiln of the late Joseon period, which specialized primarily in white porcelain. It features a bulbous body, a short neck with a slight constriction, and a spout that curves gently outward from the mid-section of the body. On the opposite side is a flat, thick handle a design characteristic of the Bunwon kiln. It stands on a wide, ring-shaped foot, with visible wheel marks remaining on the interior of the foot rim. Finished with a transparent glaze, the piece is made of high-whiteness porcelain with a subtle greenish tint. As a product of the official kiln, the construction is robust, featuring a thick rim (4 mm) and foot (8 mm). Weighing 418 grams substantial for its size it conveys a sense of heft and solidity when held. There is no conspicuous flaws. It has good luster throughout and is in good condition.
