Orris Butter (Concrete)
Concrete | Iris pallida Orris concrete is a material of extraordinary depth and complexity that has been prized in fine fragrance since the Renaissance. The rhizomes of Iris pallida are harvested after three years of growth, then dried for a further two to three years before processing, a period during which enzymatic activity converts irone precursors into the complex irone compounds responsible for orris’s characteristic scent. The resulting concrete, also known as orris butter for its waxy, solid consistency at room temperature. It takes around 1,000 kilograms of dried rhizomes to yield a single kilogram of concrete. Available pre-diluted at 10% in DPG, making it straightforward to weigh and incorporate without needing to melt the solid form.
