Georgian 9ct Gold Carnelian Cabochon Pendant

Description: Fine red veins branch through the warm orange Carnelian at the centre of this Georgian pendant, giving its broad cabochon a wonderfully individual pattern. The softly rounded rectangular outline is framed in 9ct Gold, with closely ridged edging adding a fine band of texture beside the smooth, domed stone. Originally a brooch, the piece has since been converted into a pendant and now hangs from a jump ring, ready to adorn a Gold chain. That simple fitting leaves the richly coloured Carnelian and its delicate frame as the focus. Item Details: ERA: Georgian (1714–1837). MEASUREMENTS: Pendant measures 33.5mm long including jump ring. Pendant measures 24mm wide. Carnelian measures 23.4mm long x 18mm wide. WEIGHT: 6.2g. MATERIALS: Tests as 9ct Gold, Carnelian. HALLMARKS: Since we have dated this piece as being made before 1950, a hallmark is not required in order for it to be sold in line with UK hallmarking legislation. Condition: VERY GOOD: The ridged Gold edging remains well defined, with surface marks on the surrounding frame. There is a small split at the lower edge of the cabochon setting. Marks on the reverse remain from its conversion from a brooch. The Carnelian is smooth and securely set, with no chips or scuffs visible.
