Forbidden Planet is one of the great monuments of 1950s science fiction: sleek, strange and wildly influential. Released by MGM in 1956 and directed by Fred M. Wilcox, the film stars Walter Pidgeon, Anne Francis and Leslie Nielsen, with the legendary Robby the Robot making his screen debut. Loosely inspired by The Tempest, it is a dazzling mix of space opera, psychological mystery and atomic-age imagination. This original US 1 Sheet is a stone-cold classic of sci-fi poster design. The image has everything: Robby the Robot, a swooning Anne Francis, alien landscapes, cosmic swirls, electric colour and that huge yellow Forbidden Planet title blasting across the top. It is pulpy, glamorous and beautifully theatrical, with the famous “Amazing!” stamp adding the perfect B-movie punch. A superb poster for collectors of classic science fiction, 1950s cinema, MGM history and space-age design. Big colour, big mythology and one of the most recognisable robots in movie history. This original movie poster was originally folded (as issued) but has been professionally linen-backed. It is sized approx. 27 x 41 inches (plus a little more with the linen-backing) and will be sent rolled (unframed).
