Checking Out the Chokecherries
Chokecherry trees (or shrubs) are one of my favorite native woody plants. Their flowers in spring are wonderfully aromatic and their edible fruits are a reliable draw for many different birds. In my yard, one of the primary chokecherry diners are the beautiful Black-headed Grosbeaks. I painted this male bird as it perched on a chokecherry branch laden with berries in late summer.
