IWC Cal. 89 'Shark Fin' 18k Rose Gold - 1961

IWC Cal. 89 'Shark Fin' 18k Rose Gold Vintage IWC are still largely overlooked, and therefore provide what we feel is absolutely outstanding value for money for what are simply stunning watches. What we have here is a circa-1961 manual wind dress watch that utilises the famed Cal.89 movement, one of the most respected manual wind movements from the 20th century. In production from 1946 until 1970 it was renowned for it's robustness and distinctive winding click, and is quite lovely to behold as well. The case is made of 18kt rose gold and measures in at an oversized for the era 36.5mm (sometimes listed as 37mm), with the most magnificent 'Shark Fin' lugs. The case is beautifully preserved, with no dings or dents present and only the most minor of hairlines. Hallmarks are crisp, and deep. Housed within it lies a silver dial with gold Arabic markers for the quarter hours, and lovely applied stick markers for the remainder, which are all sitting inboard of the most beautiful 18k inlaid dots for the minute track. It also features classic IWC script, and topped with Alpha 18k hands. The dial is in unbelievable condition, with only the most minor of small scratches present. Plexi is extremely clean, as are the hands. Serviced by the previous retailer, Goldammer, in 2020. Keeping fantastic time, and winds super smoothly. It's mounted to a handmade Fluco German leather strap strap on generic gold-tone tang buckle. Comes with Watch Vault cleaning cloth, Watch Vault Travel Pod, receipt and certificate from Goldammer. A truly exceptional example. The combination of size, iconic movement, rose gold, hand craft and condition makes you wonder why you'd pay more money for a lesser modern watch.
