Scrap Sheet Planter

DESCRIPTION The Scrap Sheet Planter is fabricated from salvaged galvanised steel sheet, reworked into a durable planter for indoor and outdoor use. Each piece is handmade in Brisbane using surplus and off-cut steel sourced from local industrial supply chains. This hardworking material is highly durable, corrosion resistant, and designed for long-term use. Rather than discarding sheets due to off-cut sizing, oversupply, or minor visual imperfections, the material is reworked into robust architectural planters. Sheets are used in their existing off-cut dimensions, then rolled and joined to form the planter creating no waste during fabrication. Each unit carries the markings, variation, and surface character of its source material. The planter is designed in two sizes to fit a standard 400 or 500mm diameter planting bucket, allowing for easy replacement and compatibility with widely available planters from hardware stores and garden centres. Alternatively, the planter can be filled directly for in-ground applications. The steel is fully galvanised and suitable for external use. Over time, the surface will soften and develop a natural patina. Bespoke sizes available on request. SUPPLY CHAIN INFO Fabricated from salvaged galvanised steel sheet sourced as off-cuts from local steel recycling streams. No glues or composite materials are used. The planter is fully recyclable at end of life. Steel production accounts for approximately 7–9% of global carbon emissions. Reusing existing material reduces the need for reprocessing and lowers embodied carbon. A galvanised steel support is provided to suit this size to bring the bucket to height. Suitable for direct planting in external conditions. Bespoke sizing available on request.
