Raw propolis is placed into 99.8% absolute ethanol at a 1:5 ratio and shaken daily, then filtered multiple times as the resin settles into a thick, creamy concentrate. This soft, resin‑rich propolis cream is stored beneath a protective layer of ethanol to prevent it from hardening — because once exposed to air, propolis becomes extremely hard, almost like cement, and can only be re‑solubilised in ethanol. This natural hardness is part of what makes propolis such a powerful protective material inside the hive.
