Mussorgsky - The Old Castle from Pictures at an Exhibition for Trombone and Piano
The Old Castle (Il Vecchio castello) from Pictures at an Exhibition by Modeste Mussorgsky has been beautifully arranged for Trombone and Piano by Nir Fishkin. The melody depicts a scene of a medieval castle before which a troubadour sings a melancholy tune musically set by Mussorgsky, inspired by a painting of Viktor Hartmann. Ravel's glorious arrangement for orchestra gives the solo to the saxophone. In Mr. Fishkin's arrangement, the timbre of the trombone works perfectly and is suitable for advanced intermediate players with a range going briefly up to high b-flat.
