Fridays in June: MUGS After-School Workshops
*This Friday series only meets twice, to coincide with the end of the school year. Other days of the week meet 3 times and offer different projects* June's Friday Theme: Mug Making This 2-week workshop meets June 5 and 12 only. Our artists will create up to three, well-made, hand-built mugs. These mugs are food safe, dishwasher safe, microwave safe and one-of-a-kind. Week One: Tweens and kids will learn how to use studio equipment, including our slab roller and wall extruder, while creating a custom, one-of-a-kind mug. Artists will become oriented to the studio and how to take care of our shared space. Artists will begin sculpting their first functional piece of pottery. Week Two: Students will continue to create mugs, and work on fine finishing details of all of their creations, including smoothing out lips, handles, feet and creating their own makers mark. Prices include all instruction, clay, tools, kiln firing, and dip-glazing. Pottery is generally ready to glaze two weeks after creating, and ready to take home one week after that. Artists are encouraged to pack a light snack or bring a few dollars to pick out a snack at one of our local cafes. At about 4pm our group will go for a short walk to grab a snack at one of our neighbor cafés and look for inspiration in the natural world—like leaves, flowers, insects and rocks.
