Contained (2026)
Contained explores the relationship between identity and the roles we inhabit throughout life. Professional roles, family roles, social expectations, and personal narratives can provide structure and belonging. Over time, however, they may also become something that confines us. The painting reflects on the tension between the individual and the identities imposed, adopted, or inherited. It asks how much of what we consider ourselves is truly our own, and how much has been shaped by expectation, habit, and circumstance. Its meaning remains intentionally open, inviting viewers to reflect on the boundaries between authenticity, adaptation, and self-definition.
