Faux Basketry Class with Stacy Holtz

Date + Time: June 14th 9am-4pm with a 1-hour lunch break Location: Welburn Gourd Farm Level: All Levels Learn how to carve a faux coiled basketry design on a gourd bowl! Depending on the size on the gourd and student’s prior experience, some may finish the project in class. Otherwise, they will be presented with information on how to finish the project at home. Materials provided (if you have your own tools, you are welcome to bring your own): Pencils Line Marking Tool Sanding Sealer 220 Grit Sandpaper Carved Sample Gourds Black and Dark Brown Acrylic Paint Paint Brushes Paper Palette Finishing Spray Tools to bring: Carver or Rotary ToolWelburn Gourd Farm does have carvers to rent or purchase Burrs (carbide wheel, Saburrtooth safe (flat) end dovetail, sanding drum burr) Burrs available for purchase in store Woodburner with thin skew or spear tip 6" Diameter thick prepared Gourd Apron Eye protection Ear protection Mask/respirator to protect from dust Pencil Flexible cloth measuring tape Line Marking Tool (optional) Additional Details: Due to our rural location, we recommend that you pack a snack or a small lunch to keep your creative energy flowing! Our store will have some limited snacks available for purchase if needed. Cancellation Policy: For a full refund, notice of cancellation must be received 48 hours prior to the start of class. Cancellations received outside of 48-hour window are non-refundable. Credit may be applied towards a future class.
