When the British Army decided Afghanistan demanded better than its old DPM vest, the OSPREY Mk4 showed up and its waistband was the unglamorous part that kept the whole thing from sliding into a ditch. Introduced in 2010 alongside Britain's Multi-Terrain Pattern camouflage, the OSPREY Mk4 was the backbone of British personal protection throughout Operation Herrick, which stands as the UK's longest sustained combat deployment since Korea. The waistband panels are what made the system actually wearable. They are elasticated left and right sections with heavy duty Velcro fastening that locked plates and carrier in place through vehicle insertions, foot patrols, and whatever Helmand had to offer that day. MTP itself was Britain's answer to multi-environment warfare, a modified Multicam that replaced both Woodland and Desert DPM across all of HM Forces by 2013.
