Abakenyezi Isosa Washed

Abakenyezi Isosa takes its name from the Kirundi word for "women", recognising the producers behind the coffee and the role they play throughout the project. The coffee comes from Isosa in Cankuzo Province, a remote part of eastern Burundi known for its fertile soils, high elevations, and strong coffee-growing tradition. During a Rainforest Alliance training program, a group of producers approached Jeanine Niyonzima-Aroian of JNP Coffee to explore working together after seeing the impact of JNP's existing projects in Burundi. What followed was a partnership built around quality, shared values, and long-term opportunity. In the cup, this fully washed Bourbon leans toward comfort rather than brightness. Stewed pear sits at the centre, supported by a toffee-like sweetness and a soft texture that carries through the finish. There's structure underneath it all, but the overall impression is calm and approachable. A coffee built on thoughtful production, careful processing, and the work of women helping shape the future of coffee in Cankuzo.
