Château MontPlaisir Safres, Côtes du Rhône Villages (750ml)
The Sandy Soils of Valréas Château MontPlaisir’s "Safres" takes its name from the unique sandy soil (safres) of the Valréas village in the northern part of the Southern Rhône. This specific terroir is prized for producing wines with exceptional finesse and a distinct silkiness. A masterful blend of Grenache and Syrah, this Côtes du Rhône Villages avoids the heavy, jammy style often found in the region, instead opting for a profile defined by bright red fruit, floral elegance, and a remarkable mineral lift. It is a sophisticated expression of the Rhône Valley that prioritizes balance and "drinkability." Appearance - A vibrant ruby red with bright purple hues. Nose - An expressive and floral bouquet. Fragrant aromas of crushed raspberries and redcurrants are layered with notes of wild "garrigue" herbs, lavender, and a characteristic dash of white pepper. Palate - Medium-bodied and incredibly smooth on the palate. The "Safres" soil provides a characteristic silkiness to the texture, supporting a core of juicy red fruit and savory spice. The tannins are supple and polished, leading to a long, refreshing finish with a hint of licorice and stony minerality. Pairings - Iberico Pork Secreto, Grilled Butabara, Teppan Pork Jowl with Yuzu Kosho, Wagyu Teppanyaki, Grilled Duck Breast. Service - Serve at 16–17°C. This wine’s elegance is best appreciated when served just slightly below room temperature. While it is beautifully approachable upon opening, giving it 20 to 30 minutes of air will allow the spicy Syrah notes and the floral Grenache aromatics to reach their full potential.
