Its distinctive flared "butterfly" shape opened up a whole world of string tricks by making it far easier to land the yo-yo back onto the string. This Red edition pairs that classic, beginner-friendly design with a fixed steel axle and a tough, high-impact plastic body, so it stands up to plenty of practice whilst you master the fundamentals. Whether it's a first yo-yo, a stocking filler or a small gift, the Butterfly remains the go-to choice for anyone learning to play. Duncan History + Duncan yo-yos grew out of a chance meeting in late-1920s California, when businessman Donald F. Duncan saw Filipino immigrant Pedro Flores demonstrating his new "yo-yo" toy and promptly bought his company and trademark. In the 1930s, Duncan turned the simple wooden toy into a craze by sending teams of demonstrators to schools and staging newspaper-backed contests, quickly capturing the vast majority of the U.S. yo-yo market. After opening a major factory in Luck, Wisconsin in 1946, Duncan was producing thousands of yo-yos per hour and, by 1962, selling around 45 million a year as TV advertising and national promotions kept the brand in the spotlight. Today, Duncan is one of the world's oldest toy makers. Founded during the Great Depression, the Duncan Toys story is one of curiosity and invention. From schoolyard demonstrators selling hand-carved wooden yo-yos to modern champions touring the globe, the way we play is always changing – but the reasons we play are not.
