Château Branaire-Ducru , Saint Julien was ranked a fourth growth in the 1855 classification of Médoc and the Graves. The estate was founded in 1680 by Jean-Baptiste Braneyre, who reportedly saw the potential of the soils of the Bordeaux commune of Saint-Julien and the ability of Cabernet Sauvignon to flourish upon them. Before his death he gave his name to the estate, which was later changed to the current spelling, Branaire. The 1975 vintage is renowned for being hard and tannic in its youth to the point that concerns were that they would never soften. Some have 30/04/2026 -95 Points Garnet red, browning at the edges. Lovely aromas of spice, flowers, dust. It’s fading and I would not recommend decanting, but it drank well for two hours after opening. Great spiced berry flavour, a little resin, apple, pine, and elegant blackcurrant and raspberry fruit still lingering. Tannins have melted away, but the wine is still very dry. Delicious.
