Victorian 9K Gold Hand-Engraved Whistle
This Victorian 9k gold hand-engraved whistle makes a beautiful pendant—but is also a working whistle with a nice high trill. It is covered in rows of elaborate hand-engraved foliate, each row with a different design. The engravings go all the way around the whistle, which adds character to the piece and sets it apart, as the delineation of the engravings are one of its defining features. Hand engraving like this is time consuming and has become a lost art. The 9k gold gives it a somewhat rosy, antique gold hue. We love that this piece is both useful and decorative. The whistles measures 1” x 1/4”, plus a 6.5 mm bail. It weighs 1.9 grams. It is marked in several places: on the bail, at the top of the whistle, and at the base of the whistle. It contains the marks for Birmingham, the year 1900, 375 for 9k, and the makers mark JA for James Alexander.
