Special Series for Filter: Nicaragua Bridazul 'Little Red Riding Hood'
We had this coffee for the first time last year through our friend Per Nordby from Gothenburg. Bridazul does amazing work to empower farmers and producers in the Nueva Segovia Department of Nicaragua, and we are proud to be partnered with such caring people. Claudia and Tim work for the underdogs and small microlot holders in the region and offer a variety of resources, stemming from their base at Finca El Árbol. They provide a processing mill that can be used to raise coffee quality, they hire agronomists to provide information on soil care and farm maintenance, and they encourage tutoring for producers. At their home of Finca El Árbol, they offer additional services including medical care and education to their workers and families. They also provide producers with market access, information on how to profitably sell green beans, and guidance on harvesting and processing. These resources build long-term positive impacts for sustainable work for more communities in the Department. This coffee comes from several farms; El Avion, Los Pirineos and Los Suyates. This lot was created by coffee cherries undergoing Carbonic Macerated (CM) fermentation in smaller batches for a short time in controlled conditions to bring out fresh fruit flavors, before drying on shaded African beds stacked a few cherries deep to maintain fruit intensity and develop a refined CM Natural tactile experience. Concept: "Little Red Riding Hood" is a European fairy tale about a young girl and a Big Bad Wolf. Elements: folkloric dancing, a typical church, sacuanjoche (frangipani) flower, the mountains, leaves of coffee Meaning of the symbolism: Difference between the safe village and dangerous forest. Critic: Everybody has seen pictures of pickers, but little is known on the complete life on the farm of the farm workers, let alone on their life at home.
