Virtual Beginners Jam Class

This is a live, online cooking class. Wednesday, April 22nd, 3pm Hawaii/6pm Pacific Each spring, we welcome guests to our Introduction to Jam-Making Class, celebrating the season with fresh, vibrant strawberries—perfect for creating a bright, flavorful preserve. In this hands-on class, you’ll learn the full jam-making process from start to finish: washing and hulling fruit, cooking and testing for doneness, and safely jarring and storing your finished jam. We place a strong emphasis on home canning safety, ensuring you leave with both confidence and practical skills. Each participant will head home with two jars of freshly made strawberry jam. At the heart of our approach is a commitment to no pectin-added, low-sugar preserving. This traditional method is both a science and an art, allowing the true flavor of the fruit to shine. We hope you enjoy the process as much as the final product. This class is taught by Aletha Thomas, founder of Monkeypod Jam and Cooking Kauaʻi. With over 15 years of experience in both home and commercial preservation, she brings deep knowledge, warmth, and a passion for sharing the craft. What to Expect A list of all the ingredients and tools needed will be emailed out prior to class. Recipes will be emailed the evening prior. Where You’ll Be In your own Kitchen! We will be teaching the class from our Cooking Kauai, Provisions Kitchen in Lāwa‘i, Kauai. Once registered, you’ll receive the list of needed ingredients and a Zoom link. Age Requirement Participants must be 16 years or older. Youth ages 8–15 must attend with an adult Refund Policy Due to limited seating and the upfront costs of food and its preparation, our classes are final and non-refundable. Please consider signing up for our classes as you would purchasing a concert ticket- you can always send someone else in your place, but refunds cannot be issued. Alternatively, you may reach out to us, and we will try our best to sell the seats on your behalf. If we do so, a future credit to a scheduled class will be issued. Refunds will only be issued if Cooking Kauai needs to shut down/cancel events due to unforeseen events or low participation. We appreciate your understanding that this is how we maintain our business and provide boutique-style service.
