NTS Magazine - Issue 9
Ideas. Ideas. Ideas. It’s what we all need, right? More ideas for how to make our small homes work harder, more ideas for what’s actually possible within the space we have; more ideas to make them more functional, more liveable and more… us. So we jammed A LOT of ideas into this latest issue of our magazine. Possibly the most we’ve ever jammed into one of these things. Let’s start with the delightful humans at Studiomama – our cover stars. If you haven’t seen what this pair does with small spaces, you must. They even turned a London apartment the size of a carpark into a beautiful home. Ideas-to-steal score: 10/10. Other rich pickings come in the shape of Japanese designer Fuyuki Shimazu – a guy who knows how to work his way around some cardboard, make tables out of empty soft drink bottles and turn airline ‘comfort bags’ into snazzy lamps; Madrid-based design studio Plutarco who get a kick out of designing spaces that are “shocking and surprising” while still being thoroughly livable; and Madrid-based, Guillermo Trapiello who is rethinking the rituals of everyday life from his own living laboratory. Rest assured there are small homes aplenty as always: one in Japan full of pits (yep), an experimental transformation of a garage in New Zealand, a Spanish apartment shaped by colour and light and an Italian gem reimagined by the simple gesture of a 60cm-high wall. We’ve also got you covered for practical advice on living small with a small family, stealing tricks of the trade from small space hospitality for your home and making the most of your entrance, even if it’s teeny tiny. That’s just a tasty taster. Don’t miss the full feast.
