Brand: Art at Red Earth
SKU: PRT-VPR-91

Baoli and Remains of the Palace of Jehangir (19th c. engraving) Drawn by Thomas Colman Dibdin after a sketch by Captain Thomas Bacon Engraved by William Henry Capone Original Engraving (Plate from A Gazetteer of the World by A. Fullarton & Co., Edinburgh, c. 1856-1871) 18 x 27.5 cms / 7.1 x 10.9” app. Non-exportable antiquity. Cannot be exported out of India. ____________________ The exact location depicted in this engraving is a highly romanticized, composite mixture rather than a geographically accurate site. While the print is explicitly labeled "at Delhi" and references Emperor Jahangir, historians and art experts note that no such palace built by Jahangir exists in Delhi. The work is believed to be a heavily altered, stylized representation of the famous Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya Dargah Baoli in New Delhi. ____________________ Condition Report: In good condition overall: no damage or tears. Some foxing, as clearly visible in the images.
