Faceted rondelle bead strand 2,4 x 2 mm in natural Labradorite

A strand of small faceted rondelles in labradorite, a smoky gray crossed with blue and greenish reflections. With every movement, the facets create brief flashes, like a stormy sky lighting up. Its reflections are not a color of the material but an optical phenomenon, labradorescence: light reflects on fine internal lamellae of alternating compositions and produces, by interference, blue, green, or golden flashes depending on the viewing angle. The stone owes its name to Labrador, Canada, where it was described around 1770; today it is mined mainly in Madagascar, Finland, India, and Canada. Good to know: labradorite has two marked cleavage planes. It wears well, but it does not like sharp impacts: avoid dropping it onto a hard surface.
