2026 Oil on anodised aluminium 200 x 150mm This is a depiction of German Mannerist sculptor Benedikt Wurzelbauer’s inimitable 1599 Venus and Cupid Standing on a Dolphin in Prague Castle’s Picture Gallery Nicolaus Pfaffh. As I visited the gallery, a slanting afternoon light cast the sculpture’s shadow into something of a visual Freudian slip, saying more of beauty’s relationship with love than Wurzelbauer ever intended
