The D51 steam locomotive supported Japan’s freight transport from the early Showa era through the nation’s period of rapid economic growth. Affectionately known as “Degoichi,” this legendary locomotive remains beloved long after its retirement from regular service. Now, in celebration of the 100th year of the Showa calendar, it comes to life in a special collaboration watch with Seiko. The design takes inspiration from locomotive D51 No. 200, preserved in working order by JR West and renowned for hauling the SL Yamaguchi tourist train. On October 14, 2006—Japan’s Railway Day—it was designated a Quasi-Railway Monument as part of the “Umekoji Steam Locomotives and Related Facilities.” An all-black finish captures the locomotive’s jet-black exterior. Inspired by its distinctive smokebox door, the dial features a “D51 200” number plate and a smokebox door handle motif in gold-tone accents, evoking the commanding presence and dignity of this iconic “king of steam locomotives.” Limited to 5,000 pieces worldwide. Presented in a specially designed box featuring a foil-stamped D51 No. 200 logo.
