A lateral transfer is easier to assist than a vertical one. If someone helps you move, the flip-back armrest changes their day as much as yours. The posture support does not change. The same patented backrest as every other Comfort. The Flip is not a compromise version of the chair, it is the chair with a different armrest. It still goes in the car. Wheels off with a push button, footrests off by hand, and the frame comes down to 16.1 lb. That is a two-handed lift, not a heave. The backrest A flat back panel pushes your lower spine into a C-shape. Your pelvis tilts back, your head comes forward, and staying seated becomes work. The Comfort Flip carries the same shaped, frame-integrated backrest as the rest of the Comfort family. It is part of the frame rather than a cushion strapped on afterwards, and it fills the hollow of your lower back so you sit upright without thinking about it. How the adjustment works. The backrest panel is held by wide hook-and-loop straps. You set the tension at any height along the back and to any firmness, so the support meets your own lumbar curve rather than an average one. The adjustment works across a range of −10 to +20 degrees. The curve itself is built into the frame; what you are setting is how firmly, and where, it meets you. Rated for users up to 300 lb The aluminum frame is rated for users up to 300 lb / 136 kg, tested to ISO 7176-15 for static, impact and fatigue loading. The flip-back armrests on the Strongback Comfort Flip swing up and back so nothing blocks the side of the seat during a transfer. They let you slide sideways onto a bed, a car seat, a commode or a shower bench without lifting your body over a fixed armrest. If you transfer several times a day, or if a caregiver assists, this is usually the single feature that decides which chair works. How is the Strongback Comfort Flip different from the standard Strongback Comfort? The Strongback Comfort Flip differs from the standard Comfort in the armrests. Both chairs carry the patented Strongback backrest, both are self-propelled on 24 in quick-release wheels, and both are rated to 300 lb. The Comfort Flip adds armrests that hinge back for side transfers. The standard Comfort has fixed desk-length armrests and comes in an 18 or 20 in seat; the Flip is 18 in only. Set up, the Flip frame is about an inch longer and half an inch wider than the Comfort M; folded, the two are within half an inch of each other, so check the folded dimensions if trunk space is tight. Its 24 in rear wheels carry ergonomic hand rims sized for you to propel yourself. A transport chair has small rear wheels, no hand rims, and only moves when someone pushes it. Every Strongback has a push-to-lock parking brake at each rear wheel as standard.
