Rolex Day-Date 1806 Florentine 1964 - A timeless icon with a rare dial and Bracelet combination.. Introduced in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date quickly became one of the manufacture’s most prestigious creations - the first Rolex wristwatch to display both the date and the day of the week written in full. This Ref. 1806 from 1964 is a particularly elaborate expression of the early Day-Date, combining unusual textures with quintessential mid-century Rolex design. Its original golden linen Pie-Pan dial is a highlight in itself. The finely textured surface changes character with the light, while the stepped outer edge characteristic of early Pie-Pan dials adds further depth. Original, evenly aged lume and an Italian-language day wheel complete its wonderfully preserved period appearance. What truly sets this example apart, however, is its original 18k yellow gold Florentine brick bracelet. Rather than the familiar President bracelet, its intricate textured finish and brick-like construction give the watch an almost jewelry-like character. The bracelet bears a 1964 hallmark corresponding with the case, making the combination especially compelling. The 36 mm Ref. 1806 case, manufactured by Genex SA, preserves the classic proportions of the vintage Day-Date. Inside beats the automatic Rolex Cal. 1556, one of the important movements of the early Day-Date family.
