Acriptega [Lamuvidine + Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate + Dolutegravir]

Acriptega is a fixed-dose combination antiretroviral medication containing dolutegravir, lamivudine, and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate—WHO-recommended first-line treatment for HIV-1 infection in adults and adolescents over 12 years weighing at least 40 kg. Each active ingredient plays a distinct role: dolutegravir (an integrase inhibitor) prevents HIV from integrating into human DNA; lamivudine (a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor) halts viral DNA synthesis; and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor) synergistically blocks viral replication. Together, they reduce viral load, increase CD4 cell counts, and strengthen immune function, enabling patients to achieve and maintain undetectable viral levels. Acriptega is also effective in patients co-infected with chronic hepatitis B, as lamivudine and tenofovir target HBV replication. While it does not cure HIV, it allows patients to live healthier, longer lives with better quality of life and reduced transmission risk. The single-pill, once-daily regimen significantly improves medication adherence and reduces the burden of complex treatment schedules. Take one tablet daily with food to optimize dolutegravir absorption; swallow whole without crushing or chewing. Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with kidney impairment due to tenofovir content. Common side effects include headache, nausea, diarrhea, insomnia, fatigue, dizziness, and rash. Less common but serious effects may include lactic acidosis, severe liver dysfunction, hypersensitivity reactions, and psychiatric symptoms in susceptible patients. Regular monitoring of kidney and liver function is essential during treatment. Acriptega is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component or those co-administered dofetilide. Avoid use during the first trimester of pregnancy and breastfeeding. Patients with liver disease, including hepatitis B or C, require careful monitoring due to heightened risk of severe complications.
