This is the debut album, released in 1964, by guitarist Ñico Rojas, a key figure in the Filin movement. Born into a wealthy family, he grew up listening to a wide range of music from an extensive collection and displayed extraordinary guitar talent, though he ultimately chose a career as a civil engineer. Despite remaining an amateur, he honed the expressive style of Filin, alongside his peers, he left behind two albums and other artists frequently covered his compositions. Listening to this album, it makes perfect sense that José Antonio Méndez, the driving force behind Filin has his roots in jazz, while Ñico Rojas, with his classical background, helped popularize the genre in the local scene. A collection of exquisite pieces performed solely on guitar, evoking the rhythms and lyrical spirit of Cuba’s diverse musical traditions. This is the 2012 CD reissue.
