RF Royal Orchid Storm - WYSIWYG
Goniopora spp., commonly known as Goniopora or “Flowerpot Coral,” is a breathtaking large-polyp stony coral famed for its long, flowing polyps that resemble a field of delicate flowers in motion. Available in a stunning range of colors—greens, pinks, reds, purples, and metallic rainbow tones—this coral adds dynamic texture and movement to any reef display. Once considered difficult to maintain, modern aquaculture and improved feeding techniques have made Goniopora far more accessible and rewarding for dedicated aquarists. Lighting: Moderate to high (100–200 PAR); blue-spectrum LEDs enhance fluorescence and polyp coloration Flow: Moderate; prefers indirect, oscillating flow that allows polyp extension without whipping the tentacles Placement: Middle to lower regions of the aquarium; avoid direct exposure to powerhead output or strong upward currents Temperature: 76–80°F (24–27°C) Salinity: 1.024–1.026 SG pH: 8.1–8.4 Alkalinity: 8–9.5 dKH (stable levels are crucial to long-term success) Calcium: 420–450 ppm Magnesium: 1300–1400 ppm Nutrients: Moderate nutrient levels (NO₃ 5–15 ppm, PO₄ 0.05–0.12 ppm) promote growth and prevent tissue recession; avoid ultra-low nutrient systems Feeding: Photosynthetic but benefits greatly from supplemental feeding 2–3 times per week with micro foods such as phytoplankton, rotifers, and coral-specific blends; target feeding during evening polyp extension is most effective Aggression: Moderate; extends short sweeper tentacles at night and can sting nearby corals within a few centimeters Growth Rate: Moderate; slow to establish but accelerates under stable parameters and consistent feeding Care Level: Intermediate – sensitive to instability and low nutrients, but manageable in mature, well-balanced systems Compatibility: Generally peaceful; position away from aggressive LPS such as Euphyllia and maintain open space for full polyp movement
