A proper major heavyweight transatlantic tussle - in the nicest possible way - between two great historic house dynasties, first surfacing in the late 90s and now back in stock, for the moment at least. 'BABY DUNIT (DUB MIX)' In the 'original' corner, we have Chicago house music legend Mr Frankie Knuckles, aided ably by the similarly fabled Jamie Principle. In the 'remix' corner, we have Housey Doingz, the shadowy London collective that kicked off the tech house revolution and was said to contain, at some time or another, the late Nathan Coles, Terry Francis, Dave Coker, Dave Pine, Justin Bailey and Laurant Webb. The two mixes here are your standard formats - a vocal mix on one side, a dub on the flip - but there's nothing standard about the makeovers the track gets, both versions remodelled for maximum trippiness and the tougher, more sinewy beats that London dancefloor, the dub even crispier and touting a garage-adjacent shuffle to boot. Tasty fare, just as spinnable today as it was back then.
