Over 20 million years, groundwater rich in silica and trace minerals like copper, iron, and manganese replaces the rotting organic wood tissue with microcrystalline opaline silica, preserving fine rings and grain in striking blue shades. The opalized brownish color on the outside of the stones is petrified wood, but magic is inside... the lush, rich blue is feathered with manganese and native copper dendrites, some of which look like snowflakes or feathers.
