Dwarf Essex rape is a fast-growing, cold-hardy brassica that's a workhorse for both wildlife food plots and livestock forage. Broadcast it in late summer and you'll have lush, leafy growth in as little as 40–60 days — highly palatable, high in protein, and easy to digest. As the temperature drops, rape only gets better: a hard frost converts the plant's starches to sugars, sweetening the leaves right when deer and other game are looking to pack on late-season weight. That cold tolerance keeps it green and productive well past the first frosts, making it a proven draw for fall and winter hunting plots. Beyond the food plot, Dwarf Essex is an excellent grazing crop for cattle, sheep, and hogs, and doubles as a soil-building cover crop with a deep taproot that helps break up compaction. It establishes on a wide range of soils, needs only a shallow seedbed, and delivers a lot of tonnage per acre for the money. Best for: Deer and wildlife food plots, livestock forage, fall/winter grazing, cover cropping Planting window: Late summer to early fall (roughly 60–90 days before first frost) Seeding rate: ~5 lb per acre broadcast (3–4 lb drilled); adjust for blends Days to grazing: ~40–60 days after emergence Package: 50 lb bag
