Calypso

Calypso is a heavy, sculptural signet in brushed gold or platinum, its edges rounded and softened as though worn smooth by water. A champagne-coloured 3-carat radiant-cut diamond sits at the centre in a rectangular bezel, with a trapezoid-cut diamond set tightly to either side. The trapezoids angle outward from the centre stone, fanning like the pull of a current, and lock the whole face into a firm symmetry. The brushed surface does not flash so much as glow, the way wet stone or sea-worn metal holds light rather than throwing it back. It is a deliberately weighty, elemental piece; part rock, part relic. It takes its name from the sea nymph of the Odyssey who kept Odysseus on her island for seven years. Like the goddess, it sits solid and immovable on the hand, yet everything in its lines points back to water.
