Domaine Pierre Morin Sancerre Blanc Ovide

The Morin family has farmed around Bué - one of Sancerre’s most distinguished villages - for generations, gradually expanding the estate from 1.5 hectares to 10 hectares of biodynamically farmed vines on some of the finest sites in the region. The fruit for Morin's Ovide cuvée is sourced from old, gnarly vines grown near the winery. Named in honour of their shepherd neighbour who planted these vines back in the 1950s, these deeply rooted vines are grown in stony soils - Caillottes and Terre Blanches - contributing wonderful tension and length to the wine. A small proportion of the wine is aged in used French oak demi-muids, for added texture and complexity. A beautifully poised Sancerre, expressive yet restrained. Aromas of ripe citrus and delicate stone fruit rise from the glass, underscored by subtle nettle and a fine thread of crushed stone minerality. The palate is elegant and composed, combining density with precision. Layers of lemon zest and white peach glide over a mineral core, while a gentle almond note adds nuance and breadth.
