MAURITIUS MICRO SWORD Mauritius Micro Sword (Lilaeopsis mauritiana) is a foreground carpeting plant endemic to the island of Mauritius. Unlike the more common Lilaeopsis brasiliensis, its leaves are terete — round in cross-section rather than flat — giving it a distinctive fine, quill-like texture that sets it apart from other micro sword species. Care tip: Mauritius Micro Sword spreads by runners and needs a nutrient-rich substrate to carpet effectively — give it room and steady conditions, since it's a slower grower than L. brasiliensis and rewards patience over intervention. This species does best with medium to high lighting, steady water flow, and a nutrient-rich substrate. It tolerates a fairly wide pH and hardness range, and while CO2 injection isn't strictly required, it significantly speeds spreading and carpet density. Regular trimming keeps the carpet low and tight. As a true foreground carpet plant, Mauritius Micro Sword forms a dense, textured lawn distinct from flatter-bladed carpeting species, giving aquascapers a genuinely different foreground texture.
