The Riviera is a Panama hat handmade in Ecuador with toquilla straw from a local palm species. In 2012, UNESCO inscribed the traditional weaving of the Panama hat on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. In the beginning, the main function of the Panama hat was to protect people from the sun, then it became a fashionable hat (which still protects from the sun). The Riviera hat is certified with a UPF40 sun protection rating, blocking more than 97.5% of UV rays.
