Type White Grape Chenin Blanc Style Peachy, zesty, oak-kissed ABV 13.5% Closure Cork Method Sustainable Forty-year-old vines. One very good reason to open this wine About the wine From Groenland's flagship Steenkamp range, this Chenin Blanc ("Steen") is made from bush vines planted in 1981 on the Bottelary slopes of Stellenbosch, over 40 years old. The low-yielding vines and well-drained gravel soils produce concentrated, characterful fruit. Aged for 10 months in Hungarian and French oak barrels, this is a serious, cellar-worthy white from a four-generation family farm. Tasting notes Sweet stone fruit aromas of white peach and apricot, with hints of ginger and orange blossom. Rich and mineral on the palate, with a long, smooth finish and a gentle touch of oak. About the winemaker Piet Steenkamp is the fourth generation of his family to farm Groenland, a 190-hectare estate in the Bottelary Hills of Stellenbosch. The Steenkamp range represents the very best the estate produces — single-vineyard, small-batch wines that reflect the farm's heritage and terroir. A regular award-winner at Veritas and Michelangelo, Groenland combines old-world farming values with a deep commitment to sustainable viticulture.
