Antique Japanese Tea Ceremony Kettle Chagama This is an antique Japanese cast-iron kettle with lid (chagama) for the Japanese tea ceremony. This item is used in the Sado, a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, to heat water for tea-making. It has a lid, a wide projecting flange around the middle, three small legs on the bottom, and a tsurite-style movable bail handle attached with iron kan rings. It features a design of chrysanthemum, plum blossoms, and triangles.
