Rolled Handle Template

This template helps making hollow rolled handles easier to form. A small clay slab is set on the board and the clay is pushed through the opening with a damp sponge or rib, this loosens up the the clay and allows you to create the cylinder and then shape it into the handle suited for a large mug or tray, trim off the ends to fit smaller mugs. Follow the photos for tips: Once the slab is on the template then flip the template over and hold with your hand, carefully avoiding the opening for the clay to press through. One the clay is pressed through the opening, cover the back side of the slab with a ware board & flip over and place on a table. Take a knife and cut around the opening to form the handle. Remove the template and the excess clay. Now you're ready to form a cylinder. See reference photos. Once the cylinder is closed the handle is ready to shape into a half moon shape. Make sure to start with soft clay as this makes the process easier. The template opening to form the handle measures 2" at the widest point and is 7" long. The overall template is 4" x 9"
