A storied material Every KINTO FUTO Apron begins in Hamamatsu, Japan on the shuttle loom: a traditional weaving machine that uses a boat-shaped shuttle to slowly carry the yarn back and forth across the warp. It's a process that creates a distinctive texture with both softness and natural firmness. Moreover, the Futo Apron's fabric is made with around 4,000 warp threads, each one carefully threaded by hand through a reed: a process that takes anywhere between two and three days to complete. The shuttle loom is also much slower than its modern, high-speed counterpart, meticulously layering every thread one-by-one to yield a fabric that is soft, airy, and durable. There were once more than 1,600 weaving houses in the Enshu region, but only around 40 remain today. Although the traditional shuttle loom is less efficient, the fabric it produces is irreplaceable. If even one step in the process were to disappear or be forgotten, it could never be woven the same way again.
