Variations on a Theme by Henry the Eighth (Oh My Heart)
The Lyrics of Henry VIII is a vellum manuscript of 109 polyphonic instrumental and vocal music pieces, mostly secular, by 26 composers associated with the Tudor Court, dated between 1510 and 1513, and now in the collection of the British Library (identifier: BL Add MS 31922). Thirty-three of the musical compositions are composed by Henry VIII. This arrangement of “O my hart” for three bassoons was written in Aptos, CA and probably destined for the concert series that Hughes developed at the Sticky Wicket Coffee Shop, precursor to what became the Cabrillo Music Festival.
