Persimmon ‘Tanenashi’ — Astringent Variety
Tanenashi is an astringent persimmon variety, which needs to be fully ripe before eating. They should be left on on the tree until fully ripe before picking to obtain the maximum sweetness. Astringent persimmons become soft, and feel like a bag of jelly when they are fully ripe and ready to eat. Tanenashi is extremely sweet, and the fruit are large, the same shape and size as a Fuyu Persimmon. Plants are dormant for autumn/winter. Don’t be alarmed if your tree arrives with no leaves. Once spring arrives it will burst back into growth with vigour. 🌿 NZ Growing Tip Tanenashi thrives in New Zealand’s temperate climate. Let the fruit colour up fully on the tree before picking. Low maintenance, vigorous, and produces generous crops year after year with minimal care.
