Framed hand colored engraving titled "The Culture and Preparation of Tea". Originally drawn by Thomas Allom, the image was published around 1843 in the book China in a Series of Views, Displaying the Scenery, Architecture, and Social Habits of that Ancient Empire by George Newenham Wright. This is an original engraving by Arthur Willmore. The engraving provides a Western perspective on mid-19th-century Chinese tea production. It illustrates laborers sorting, roasting, and drying tea leaves in shallow heated pans under an open pavilion while overseers look on.
